2027: Stop Dreaming Of Imposing Governor In Plateau – PDP Fires APC National Chair, Yilwatda

The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, that the ruling party would install a governor in the state come 2027.

Naija News reports that Yilwatda, who was the APC governorship candidate in 2023 but lost to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, had on a live radio programme in Jos on Wednesday declared that Mutfwang would serve only one term as the APC would reclaim the state in the next election.

Reacting in a statement on Thursday, PDP’s state Publicity Secretary, Jonathan Amande, described Yilwatda’s assertion as “a figment of imagination” and “mere rhetoric to give the APC and its supporters non-existent hope.”

According to him, only Plateau citizens have the power to determine who governs them, not an imposition from the APC leadership.

“The idea of installing a governor by the APC is far-fetched and nothing but a ruse meant to massage the ego of the party. Plateau belongs to the PDP, and the people are happy with Governor Mutfwang’s leadership,” Amande said.

The PDP spokesman insisted that Governor Mutfwang had transcended being just the state’s leader, becoming the “people’s governor” through people-centred policies and inclusive governance.

“Leadership goes beyond personal ambition. What counts is broad-based acceptance, proven capacity, and credibility before the electorate, qualities the PDP has consistently demonstrated,” Amande added.

Amande further noted that the PDP’s deep-rooted presence across all wards and local government areas in Plateau gives it an unmatched political advantage.

“Our focus remains on strengthening unity, consolidating democratic gains, and working closely with the people to ensure more progress and development in the state,” he said.

He assured party members and supporters that the PDP would continue to engage citizens constructively while upholding fairness, accountability, and service delivery as guiding principles heading into 2027.

“We urge our members and supporters to remain steadfast because the PDP, as a party, is fully prepared to once more earn the people’s trust at the polls come 2027,” Amande declared.
