30 terrorists neutralized during wedding ceremony in Zamfara

The Nigerian Army has announced a major operational success in Zamfara State, confirming that no fewer than 30 terrorists were neutralised in coordinated air and ground assaults by the Air Component and ground troops of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY).

According to a statement released by OPFY media information officer, Devid Adewusi, the airstrike was launched following credible intelligence that terrorists from Katsina and Zamfara states had gathered for a wedding ceremony at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area.

The precision strike targeted a large assembly of fighters believed to be from the Faskari and Kankara axes in Katsina, along with others from Zamfara. Several terrorists were killed instantly in the air assault, while many others sustained life-threatening injuries.

Reports indicate that the wounded insurgents were quickly evacuated by their comrades to nearby Yankuzo village for treatment. However, troops of 1 Brigade under Sector 2 of OPFY mounted a follow-up ground operation, successfully fighting through an ambush laid along the approach route.

The army said the combined operations by the air and ground components led to the elimination of at least 30 terrorists, including four collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village in Tsafe LGA who were critically injured.

“Locals and other reliable sources from the area have confirmed that no fewer than 30 terrorists were neutralized during the air interdiction by the Air Component of OPFY and the follow-up operations by ground troops,” the statement noted.

The successful mission has brought relief to residents of Yankuzo, Tsafe, and surrounding communities, many of whom have endured repeated attacks and harassment from terrorists in recent months.

The military has reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and security across Zamfara and the wider North West region.
