A Kansas sheriff’s deputy was k!lled over the weekend when he was shot while responding to a domestic violence call.
Wyandotte County Deputy, Elijah Ming, 34, and an officer from the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department responded to a call for civil standby at around 3:30 p.m. local time on July 26, the county sheriff’s office said in a statement.
As authorities approached the residence, the sheriff’s office said a man opened fire and struck Ming.
Multiple other sheriff’s deputies and police officers then responded to the scene and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, according to the county sheriff’s office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The suspect, who was later identified as 38-year-old Shawn Harris, was injured during the exchange of gunfire and barricaded himself inside the residence.
Ming was transported to an area hospital where he later d!ed from his injuries, the county sheriff’s office said. The suspect was also taken to a hospital after he exited the home and surrendered to police.
