Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended two individuals linked to an armed robbery, recovering a stolen Samsung phone and rejecting a N800,000 bribe offered to obstruct justice.
In a statement issued in Uyo on August 1, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, detailed the arrests.
“One suspect, aged 53, was detained after a Samsung phone, snatched at gunpoint, was traced back to him,” John revealed, noting the suspect’s prior 2024 court charges for similar crimes.
The second suspect was arrested after attempting to bribe officers at the Special Weapon and Tactics Unit (SWAT) to secure the primary suspect’s release.
John praised the head of the SWAT unit, CSP Ebong Thompson, for his integrity, stating, “On July 30, CSP Thompson rejected an N800,000 bribe intended to free the robbery suspect and conceal the crime.”
The second suspect was promptly taken into custody following the failed bribe attempt.
He said all officers involved in the discreet investigation were awarded commendation letters by Commissioner of Police CP Baba Azare.
John issued a stern warning, saying, “The public must refrain from undermining police investigations, as such actions will face consequences.”
