APC attacking Peter Obi consistently to divert attention from its failures – CUPP

The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of launching a smear campaign against Peter Obi to divert attention from its failures in governance.

Chief Peter Ameh, national secretary of the CUPP, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

Ameh, who is also a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), was reacting to comments by Felix Mouka, national publicity secretary of the APC, who accused Obi of hypocrisy and claimed he had “nothing to offer Nigeria”.

He described the allegations as a “gross misrepresentation of facts and a desperate attempt to discredit a proven leader”.

Ameh stated: “Contrary to these unfounded claims, Peter Obi’s record as a public servant and his policy positions remain steadfast, clear, and focused on uplifting Nigerians from multidimensional poverty.

“Peter Obi has consistently advocated for reducing government waste, enhancing transparency, and implementing reforms with safeguards to protect vulnerable citizens.”

He noted that Obi’s stance on fuel subsidy removal had always been based on implementing strategic measures to cushion the effect on Nigerians.

He accused the APC of adopting a “poorly managed and abrupt” removal policy that has worsened the economic hardship across the country.

“It is disheartening that the APC, rather than addressing the pressing challenges facing Nigerians, chooses to expend energy on smear campaigns against opposition leaders.

“Nigerians are grappling with unprecedented economic difficulties, yet the ruling party has little to show for its two years in office,” Ameh lamented.

He said rather than showcasing any meaningful achievement, the APC was “resorting to baseless attacks to deflect attention from its failures”.

Ameh added that Obi remained committed to building a prosperous Nigeria “anchored on accountability, inclusive growth, and people-centred policies”.

He urged Nigerians to ignore what he described as the APC’s distractions and focus on the need for leadership that prioritises citizens’ welfare.
