President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rewarded D’Tigress of Nigeria with a monetary gift following their triumph at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket.
Nigeria defeated Mali 78-64 in the final match which was played in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on Sunday, August 4, 2025. This victory was the fifth consecutive time that the West African giants were crowned Champions of the continent.
President Tinubu decided to replicate the same gesture that he offered to the Super Falcons to D’Tigress. He gave each of the players $100,000 while each member of the coaching crew were given $50,000 and an apartment was given to everyone on the team.
The president equally bestowed the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger, OON, on each member of the team. ( players and coaching crew. The remarkable win reaffirmed their dominance in African women’s basketball and continued an unbroken winning streak that began in 2017.
The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima announced the presidential rewards on Monday evening during a special reception held in their honour at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja.
