FAAN: K1 De Ultimate Violated Airport Security With Alcohol

August 07, (THEWILL) — The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has explained the circumstances surrounding the recent incident involving Fuji music legend, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

In a statement on Wednesday, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, said the altercation occurred on August 5, when the musician attempted to board a Lagos-bound ValueJet flight (VK 201) with a bottle of alcohol, in violation of aviation security protocols.

“The passenger tried to board with alcohol. He was warned repeatedly, in line with international aviation security regulations, but declined to comply,” Orah said.

FAAN stated that the singer’s actions breached Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Security Programme as well as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 17, which prohibits passengers from carrying liquids exceeding 100ml, except those deemed medically necessary.

According to the statement, K1 De Ultimate allegedly refused to cooperate when asked to step aside for further checks and went on to spill the alcoholic drink on an aviation security officer.

The flight captain reportedly intervened but also met resistance.

Following the closure of the aircraft doors, the singer was said to have moved toward the front of the plane, prompting airport security to intervene. He was later released after being questioned.

In a related development, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the ValueJet flight crew involved in the incident for alleged safety protocol breaches.

FAAN reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on any behaviour that undermines aviation safety, stating that no individual, regardless of social status, would be allowed to flout established rules.

The authority said investigations were ongoing and that all parties found culpable would be held accountable.
