Tinubu praises Nafisa for global achievement

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, a Nigerian student who achieved international recognition through her exceptional performance at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals, held in London, United Kingdom. The president applauded her excellence, describing it as a shining example of Nigerian potential on the global stage.

In a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu referred to Nafisa as an “exceptional young Nigerian” who has brought pride to the nation through her remarkable academic feat.

Nafisa, a 17-year-old student of Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) in Yobe State, outperformed over 20,000 contestants from 69 countries — including native English speakers — to emerge as the overall best in English language proficiency at the international competition.

Recognizing her outstanding achievement, President Tinubu praised her brilliance and discipline, emphasizing that her success symbolizes a promising future for the country. “The nation’s future is much brighter with many of its youth as repositories of excellence,” he stated.

The President also took a moment to commend the Nigerian educational institutions responsible for nurturing such talent, asserting that their dedication and high standards reflect the strength and growth potential of Nigeria’s academic ecosystem.

Beyond Nafisa, other exceptional students like Rukayya Ashiru and Hadiza Ibrahim were also celebrated for representing Nigeria with distinction at the global event. President Tinubu acknowledged their accomplishments and highlighted how such victories reinforce Nigeria’s reputation for academic excellence on the world stage.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to expanding access to quality education for all Nigerians. Tinubu cited the recent launch of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a milestone initiative that will eliminate financial barriers for students pursuing higher education and ensure that more young Nigerians can realize their full potential.

In a related development, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has joined the chorus of praise. He called on the Federal Government to celebrate Nafisa’s achievement with the same level of national recognition often reserved for elite athletes.

Pantami, via a post on his official X handle, urged the government to reward Nafisa with $100,000, a three-bedroom apartment, and a national honour — similar to gestures made for national sports teams such as the Super Falcons and D’Tigress.

Furthermore, Pantami advocated for recognition of Nafisa’s English teacher, stressing the vital role of mentorship in achieving excellence. He described the student’s success as a result of “dedication, discipline, and a strong support system from her family and school.”

He concluded by urging the presidency to extend an official invitation to both Nafisa and her teacher for national commendation, stating that academic brilliance deserves as much visibility and celebration as sporting victories.
