Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has issued a profound warning to Christians, urging them not to trade their souls in pursuit of material wealth. He described such a pursuit, when it costs one their spiritual integrity, as “foolish” and contrary to the teachings of Christ.
Pastor Adeboye made these remarks while addressing thousands of worshippers during the RCCG’s 73rd Annual Convention, held under the theme “The Overcomers.” The convention brought together believers from around the world for a week of spiritual revival, teachings, and worship.

In his sermon, Pastor Adeboye emphasized that true success and victory in the Christian faith cannot be measured by material accumulation, but by the condition of the soul and the believer’s alignment with God’s will.
“God is not against enjoyment,” he stated. “But the body you’re pampering and beautifying will return to dust. It’s your spirit that will stand before God, so nurture that.”
He went on to explain that while prosperity is indeed part of God’s promises to His children, it should not be pursued through unrighteous means. “If you’re chasing money and losing your soul in the process, that’s stupidity,” Adeboye warned. “What use is your wealth when you d+e? You can’t take any of it with you.”
The revered preacher spoke passionately about the deception of prioritizing short-term gain over eternal salvation, urging Christians to be wary of the temptation to lie, cheat, or steal in the name of success.
He described the life of an overcomer as one that demands sacrifice, spiritual maturity, and a refusal to conform to the standards of the world. “Becoming a champion takes discipline,” he said. “Staying one takes even more because everyone is after your crown.”
Encouraging believers to develop resilience, Pastor Adeboye reminded the congregation that the Christian journey is filled with trials. However, he offered assurance that no believer fights these battles alone.
“Life is warfare filled with battles,” he said. “But take heart you’re not alone. The Holy Spirit in you is greater than anything you’re up against.”
He also reflected on the dual nature of humanity, explaining that man is a blend of the earthly and the divine. “You are a mix of dust and divinity. The flesh pulls you down, but the Spirit of God lifts you up. To live as an overcomer, you must choose the Spirit,” he advised.
Adeboye’s message comes as a powerful reminder to Christians to value their spiritual health above all else, and to resist societal pressures that equate success with materialism. He concluded by encouraging believers to walk daily in the Spirit, remain faithful to their calling, and seek first the kingdom of God.
