I am always the one who initiates conversations in my relationship. My boyfriend doesn’t call me. We only chat on WhatsApp. Even with those, I have to text him first, else I won’t hear from him. If I go an entire month without checking up on him first, he won’t check up on me. As I write this story, we haven’t spoken for two weeks. Even on my birthday, he didn’t call or send me a message.

I have never been with any man. This is my first relationship. We’ve been dating for one and a half years now since we met on Facebook. We were friends first before we fell in love. I thought the relationship would progress smoothly but things are at a standstill.

When I ask him about our future he tells me, “I will get back to you.”

Sometimes he would ask, “Let me ask someone in my family how marriage rites are performed, and let you know what they say.”

Till now, he hasn’t done it. We haven’t even met in person. We live in different towns but if he wants us to meet today, I will make the trip. He knows this but he hasn’t asked us to meet. I have suggested visiting him several times but he hasn’t agreed to any of my requests yet.

Apart from the slow progress, I have heard rumours that he has a set of twins. When I confronted him, he denied it. Out of curiosity, I asked other people. They all said he indeed has children. Nonetheless, my man continues to deny it.

When I asked him what I should do if it turns out he really has kids, he retorted, “If it’s true, what will you do?”

I don’t know if I am in a relationship or if it’s just an internet friend I have. I don’t know what this man is bringing to the table. Common communication, he claims he gets too busy to do that. He is not a giver. For an entire year in the relationship, no gifts. I only asked him for help once. He didn’t do it.
