LAGOS – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed concern over the sufferings of Nigerians under the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that another four years of APC-led Federal Government will be catastrophic for Nigeria.
The National Publicity Secretary of the coalition party, Bolaji Abdullahi, in an interview with Daily Independent at the weekend, stated that 2027 is going to be a referendum on APC government, on what they’ve done, what they’ve done badly, and what they’ve refused to do.
He said, “For us in ADC, it’s not just about wanting to win. We have no doubt in our mind that another four years of APC will be catastrophic for Nigeria. So whatever we need to do is to get this country out of the hands of these people and reset it on the proper path of recovery, we’re going to do it.”
While reacting to claims by the APC that the ADC is populated by nomadic politicians, Abdullahi said, “Tell me how many politicians in Nigeria are not nomadic? How many people do you have in the APC today that were not from other parties? The Senate President, the number 3 citizen in Nigeria, was he in one-party? Was he not in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)? The vice president, was he not in the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP)? So you can go on and on. I don’t think that is something that is peculiar with ADC. If you look in the ranks of PDP today, you’ll see people who have left PDP and gone to APC, gone back to PDP, and then again returned to the APC. The same way you look at APC itself, you see many people who used to be in PDP who are now in APC. So, tell me which politician in Nigeria in the last 20 years has not proven to be nomadic? Even so, how is that a peculiarity of the ADC?”
He added, “All these talks about politicians are nomadic, this politician has done this, that’s not the issue. Can’t we see the existential challenge that Nigeria is faced with? So, why are we excited about this person is nomadic, this person is this, this person is that? Do you look at what this government is doing? N712 billion to renovate an airport, and we don’t think that is crazy? Money that is not budgeted for? As I speak to you, every single day, at least 30 Nigerians are killed by armed bandits, every single day, when we’re not at war. And we’re here talking about these things, this person is nomadic, that person is this. For us in ADC, these are the serious issues. This is why we’ve come together. So, we’ll continue to convince Nigerians. What we know for certain, is that Nigerians don’t want this APC to continue, except for those who are benefitting from it. So, it’s left for us as an opposition party, we’re determined to play the role of real opposition.”
He maintained that the most important thing for the party is how to build a party that is formidable enough to challenge the party in power.
