Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez beats Marlins by setting a franchise record

As if winning the game wasn’t enough, Jose Ramirez had to set a franchise record while leading the Guardians past the Miami Marlins, 4-3, on Tuesday night at Progressive Field.

Ramirez hit two solo shots vs. Miami, making him the new franchise leader in multi-home run games with 27 over his 13 years in Cleveland, per the team. That surpassed the previous record of 26, held by Albert Belle and Jim Thome, according to Sarah Langs.

Ramirez signed with Cleveland as an amateur free agent and made his debut for the club in 2013. He’s batting .280/.353/.506 with 280 home runs over his 13 years in the league.

The Guardians (62-56) secured a crucial victory on Tuesday, as they continue to fight for a playoff spot down the stretch. Cleveland increased its postseason chances to 29.7% with the win—according to FanGraphs—nearly three percentage points higher than its odds entering the game (26.9%).

After a slow start to the season, the Guardians have won 22 of their last 30 games but entered the day 1.0 game out of the last AL Wild Card spot. However, the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers have faltered as of late, seeing their 15.5-game lead on July 8 drop to 6.5 entering today.
