The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has given the Federal Government a seven-day deadline to refund workers’ funds allegedly diverted from the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and to immediately establish the Governing Board of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).
The NLC warned that failure to meet these demands by August 20, 2025, will trigger nationwide industrial action.
This resolution was outlined in a communiqué released after the NLC’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Abuja.
Chaired by NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero, the meeting addressed critical issues impacting Nigerian workers, the trade union movement, and the broader nation.
The NLC condemned the alleged misappropriation of NSITF funds meant for workers’ welfare and stressed the urgency of reconstituting PENCOM’s Governing Board to ensure proper oversight of pension matters.
The congress urged the government to act swiftly to avoid disruptions, emphasizing its commitment to protecting workers’ rights and financial security.
