By HARUNA AHMED, Katsina –
Katsina State Government has reported that 13 individuals were killed by bandits during a dawn prayer session on Tuesday in a retaliatory attack at Unguwan Mantau, Malumfashi Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Muazu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Katsina.

According to Muazu, the attack occurred during the Fajr prayer when armed bandits opened fire inside a mosque, targeting worshippers.
He described the assault as a reprisal for the community’s recent defensive actions against the bandits.
Two days prior, residents of Unguwan Mantau had successfully ambushed and killed several bandits, prompting the retaliatory strike.
In response, security forces, including the Air Component Commander of the Forward Operating Base, Nigerian Army, and the Nigerian Police Force, have been deployed to the area to restore calm and pursue the perpetrators.
Muazu noted that bandits often exploit the cover of crops during the rainy season to carry out their attacks, complicating security efforts.
The commissioner praised the bravery of the Unguwan Mantau community and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to combating banditry and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
“We are determined to bring these criminals to justice,” he stated, adding that the government stands firmly behind community-driven security efforts while working to eradicate criminal activities in the region.
The Katsina State Government extended its condolences to the families of the victims and reiterated its dedication to protecting communities across the state.
