APC plotting to influence outcome of Zamfara by-election – PDP alleges

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is plotting to influence the outcome of the by-election in Zamfara State.

The PDP’s claim comes shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission announced that the August 16 by-election in Zamfara was inconclusive.

The electoral body stated that the election process was marred by alleged irregularities among others.

It also fixed August 21 as the new date for the supplementary election in the affected polling units in Kaura Namoda South constituency.

However, the PDP in its allegation said the voters at the polls witnessed intimidation and interference by security agencies and their operatives.

Debo Ologunagba, the spokesperson for the PDP at a press conference on Wednesday said that the ruling APC tried to use the security agents in their favour.

According to Ologunagba, the security operatives were deployed by the APC to disrupt the exercise and prevent voters from freely exercising their rights.

Claiming that the PDP won the elections in all the affected areas and more, Ologunogba warned against the deployment of military personnel to the election venue.

“This nefarious deployment aims to foist a siege mentality on the people of the constituency, intimidate, terrorise and prevent them from coming out to exercise their constitutionally guaranteed right to vote, having realised that the people of Zamfara state have soundly rejected the APC,” he said.
