Adamawa: 4 face prosecution for alleged theft of roofing sheets

Four people have been brought before the law in Adamawa State for allegedly climbing onto the roofs of houses and stealing roofing sheets.

The four suspects—Nestor John, Kemuel Kefas, Bello Abubakar, and Geoffrey Yohanna of Numan town, Numan LGA—have been arraigned at Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola on charges of vandalising houses belonging to the Numan campus of Adamawa State Polytechnic.

The court ordered the remand of the suspects for “criminal conspiracy, theft in the dwelling house,” contrary to sections 60, 318, and 276 of the Penal Code Law.

The First Information Report tendered in court stated that on various occasions in 2024 and 2025, the defendants conspired and vandalised the properties of the higher institution.

The report listed some of the items taken by the defendants during their operations, including armoured cable and roofing sheets.

It specified that the fourth defendant was arrested from the ceiling of a house while vandalising property.

The defendants pleaded guilty to theft and mischief and not guilty to the other charges.

The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Muhammed Njidda, adjourned the matter to September 2, 2025, for the commencement of trial for those who had pleaded guilty and for hearing the cases of those who denied the allegations.
