Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has dismissed the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a misleading effort to sway Nigerians with false promises of progress.
Speaking on Channels Television’s _Politics Today_ on Friday, he accused the coalition of deception, stating, “They are leading Nigerians astray with claims they can rescue the country.”
Baba-Ahmed, who ran alongside Peter Obi in the 2023 election won by Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirmed his loyalty to Obi and the Labour Party.

He expressed his desire for Obi to remain the LP’s flagbearer for the 2027 presidential race, saying, “I’m a Peter Obi man, and I want him to stay with the Labour Party and contest in 2027.”
While Obi has shown interest in running again and has been linked to the ADC coalition, which includes figures like David Mark, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir el-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola, Baba-Ahmed distanced himself from the group.
He emphasized his commitment to Obi, declaring, “My love for Nigeria drives me to work with like-minded individuals to restore our nation. I’ll stand with Peter Obi until he says otherwise.”
When asked about serving as a running mate in 2027, Baba-Ahmed was open but selective.
“If Nigeria remains stable and there’s a fair electoral system, I’d consider it,” he said.
“There are only two people I’d deputize—one hasn’t spoken yet, and the other is Peter Obi.”
