Ondo: Police intercept vehicle loaded with crystal meth

Police in Ondo State have intercepted a vehicle loaded with crystal methamphetamine and other hard drugs in Ilara Mokin, in Ifedore local government area of the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, who disclosed this on Sunday, said the development prompted a statewide crackdown on unmarked cars and masked motorcyclists.

According to him, the operation took place on August 17, 2025, at Ilara-Mokin, where a patrol team led by ASP Amos Ayuba intercepted the vehicle.

He said the vehicle, which bore a fake and stolen number plate, was found to be conveying the substances.

“All suspects connected with the case are now in custody while investigations continue,” Ayanlade said.

Following the bust, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, ordered operatives across the state to arrest and prosecute anyone driving unmarked vehicles, cars with covered or unauthorised dealer’s number plates, as well as motorcyclists riding with hoods or masks.

Lawal, who earlier met with representatives of commercial motorcyclists to sensitise them on the new measures, warned that any attempt to use motorcycles for crime would attract the full weight of the law.
