Kaduna NLC Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman
The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commended Governor Uba Sani for recalling some of the teachers sacked by the previous administration in the state.
Kaduna NLC Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman, gave the commendation while fielding questions from members of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ), who are currently in the state for a Governance Assessment visit.
Recall that the administration of former Governor Nasir el-Rufai sacked over 23,000 teachers, including the then National President of Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), during a screening exercise in 2018 and 2021.
Suleiman revealed that the current administration has recalled Head Teachers, Administrative Staff and Science Teachers affected in the mass sacking by the former governor.
He added that the process of correcting errors of past administration is still ongoing.
Speaking on the implementation of the new minimum wage, Suleiman said the governor approved a N72,000 minimum wage, which has taken effect for Workers on levels 1-7.
According to him, the governor has commenced payment of N72,000 minimum wage for workers in the lower cadre.
The Labour Leader said the Kaduna State Government will need over N1.2bn monthly to fully implement the new minimum wage.
Suleiman, however, appreciated the governor for deploying 20 buses to provide free transportation for workers and students to ameliorate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
The NGIJ members are currently engaging stakeholders and administering questionnaires across 23 local government areas of the state as part of the ongoing Kaduna Governance Assessment.
