Governor Bago’s full statement Below is the full translation of his words:

“If I were to sell Niger to raise funds for the state projects, what is your business? It’s funny how I’m the one with the headache, yet someone else is taking Panadol on my behalf. “Wait until the day I leave the governor’s seat, healthy and hearty, after completing eight years. Then I will bring out the certificate to show you the state I met and the state I left behind, so you won’t think I burdened you with a huge debt. “People are worried that I’m collecting loans, but I haven’t even started acquiring loans yet — this is just the beginning. “For the past administrations that collected loans, what did they do with them? They are saying schools, hospitals, and roads have deteriorated. Is it my administration’s fault, or are we not simply repairing what we inherited? “Yet, some people, sitting in their houses, are posting and claiming that in just two years of my tenure, I have damaged schools, hospitals, and roads. We will not castigate one another, because we belong to the same party — but we are not fools.” Governor Umar Bago of Niger State tackles critics
