Oguwike Nwachukwu, the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has revealed when civil servants in the state will start receiving payment for the new minimum wage of N104,000.
Speaking on Thursday, August 28 he revealed that the money will be paid starting from August 2025.
Recall that the governor had earlier announced his administration’s approval for a new minimum wage of N104,000 for all civil servants in the state.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, the Imo CPS said the governor’s approval is backed by notable improvement in the state’s finances.
He also said that there has been a massive growth within Imo State’s Internally Generated Revenue which prompted the action by the governor.
“The government of Hope Uzodimma has invested in building a digital economy and a new template of development.
“When this government came on board, the IGR was less than N400 million, but today, we are talking about an IGR of about N3 billion to N4 billion. This is a very clear pointer that the government is on the right track financially.
“This revenue growth is a direct result of the administration’s efforts to block financial leakages, digitise government processes, and create a conducive environment for both local and foreign investment,” Nwachuku said.
In addition, the CPS said the approval of a new minimum wage for workers by the governor was a carefully thought-out decision and not a political gamble.
