Wike Urges G-7 Security Forum To Strengthen Collaboration Against Cross-Border Crimes

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on members of the G-7 Technical Committee to develop innovative and flexible strategies to tackle cross-border crimes, particularly in the FCT and neighboring states.

The G-7 Security Forum, established in 2007, brings together the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kaduna, Benue, and Plateau states to jointly address security challenges affecting the region.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the G-7 meeting on Thursday at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja, Wike, represented by the FCT Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, called for stronger collaboration among security agencies.

He urged the committee members to “put on their thinking caps” and take advantage of synergy in strategy, stressing that such cooperation would yield multiplier benefits in safeguarding lives and property.

“The committee must maximize collaboration in order to ensure the safety and security of Abuja and surrounding states,” he said.

The G-7 States Technical Committee, made up of Commissioners of Police, State Directors of Security, and Commandants of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) from Benue, Kaduna, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau States and the FCT, holds periodic joint meetings to review prevailing security threats.

Adayilo noted that meetings also serve as a platform to articulate action plans and operational orders for the consideration and backing of the governors of the G-7 forum member states.
