EXCLUSIVE: Lawless Nigerian Policemen Driving Against Traffic Kill ABU Graduate In Kaduna

The family accused the police of trying to cover up the incident, claiming instead that the bike collided with a car.

Some lawless Nigerian police personnel in Kaduna State have been accused of cruelly killing Engineer Abdurraheem Mustapha, a graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.

SaharaReporters learnt that Mustapha was pursuing his Master’s degree in Engineering at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, up until the time of his death.

He was also working in Abuja until his life was cut short.

According to family sources, “On Friday, 29th August 2025, on his way to NDA for lectures, his life was cut short” in what was described as the “most painful and unjust way near Garkuwa Junction, in Kaduna State.”

It was stated that “the Kaduna State Police van knocked down the motorcycle he was riding.”

Speaking with SaharaReporters, his elder brother, Sabiu Mustapha Abubakar, further narrated the incident that led to his death.

“He was on a bike on that Friday when the police van which was following one-way came speeding, they hit him on the head while the bike he was on, was in motion, you know the way they do while clearing way and speeding on a major road.”

“He sat at the back of the bike, so they hit him with the stick at the back of his head.”

He further stated that it took the intervention of people at the scene who insisted that he must be taken to the hospital before the police personnel agreed to take him there.

“The people there insisted that he must be taken to a hospital, that was what made the police personnel take him to hospital. When they saw that the situation was serious, they ran away.”

The distraught Sabiu lamented how the police cut short the life of the innocent man, all because they decided to drive against traffic.

“At the hospital, it was confirmed that he died from the force of the stick used to hit him, his body did not suffer any bodily harm but for the heavy bamboo stick which is popularly called Gora used in hitting him and killing him.”

The family accused the police of trying to cover up the incident, claiming instead that the van collided with a car.

“The police have tried to cover up the incident, claiming instead that the bike collided with a car but many eyewitnesses deny such claims, it is unfortunate that those meant to protect him killed him.”

There have been growing concerns over the conduct of the police officers, including respect for human rights, with cases of brutality and killings often reported by Nigerian road users.

Despite promises of reforms by the police authorities, there continue to be allegations of arbitrary abuse of power.
