A ghastly road accident on Tuesday claimed the lives of four persons along the Benin-Lagos Expressway in Edo State, while eight others reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The accident occurred at the Ovia Bridge axis of the road in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that a truck heading towards Benin from Lagos State allegedly lost control and rammed into five other vehicles, killing three persons on the spot.
The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, confirmed the incident.
He said the accident involved five vehicles, including a truck, two Siena buses, a Space bus, and a mini truck.
He noted that 19 passengers were involved in the accident, comprising four adult females, 14 adult males, and one male child.
Three persons who were trapped in their vehicles died on the spot, while another died upon arrival at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), bringing the total deaths to four.
