Ebonyi Police Eliminate Notorious Kingpin Seize Two AK-47 Rifles

Operatives of the Ebonyi State Police Command have eliminated Isaiah Okoronkwo, a notorious criminal kingpin who had been terrorizing the Iyonu community in Ishielu Local Government Area.

The operation, conducted by the command’s elite Crack Squad, marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against violent crime in the state, according to SP Joshua Ukandu, the command’s spokesperson.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki on Wednesday, Ukandu revealed that Okoronkwo had long been on the command’s wanted list due to his involvement in a surge of armed robberies and other criminal activities in the Iyonu community.

On August 29, 2025, acting on credible intelligence, the Crack Squad launched a targeted clearance operation at a criminal hideout in Iyonu Forest.

“During the operation, the hoodlums engaged the operatives in a fierce gun battle,” Ukandu stated. “The police responded gallantly, subduing the criminals. In the encounter, the syndicate’s kingpin, Isaiah Okoronkwo, was neutralized, and two AK-47 rifles were recovered.”

Commissioner of Police Adaku Uche-Anya praised the operatives for their professionalism, courage, and meticulous intelligence work that led to the successful outcome.

Ukandu quoted the commissioner as reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents of continued efforts to maintain security.

The neutralization of Okoronkwo is expected to bring relief to the Iyonu community, which has faced heightened insecurity due to the syndicate’s activities.
