The Adamawa State Government has recorded the death of eight people attributed to suspected Buruli Ulcer in Malabu Community of Fufore Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Felix Tangwame, stated this to newsmen, adding that the situation is “deeply concerning”.
Tangwame noted that samples from affected patients have been collected and dispatched to the National Reference Laboratory for further investigation of the disease.

He reiterated that health officials have placed the community on close monitoring in order to prevent further spread while awaiting the result.

“Our medical team is working around the clock to stabilise their condition,” he stated.
He assured residents that the Adamawa State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, the World Health Organisation (WHO), and other development partners, is taking proactive steps to contain the situation.
He further explained that the state government has already deployed emergency response teams, ongoing awareness campaigns and the provision of medical supplies to be given to the affected community.
The health commissioner appealed for calm, noting that while the deaths are tragic, there is no cause for panic.
He urged residents to practice good hygiene, promptly report any cases of unusual skin ulcers or swellings, and avoid patronising traditional remedies that may worsen infections.
