Celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has kicked off her latest Guinness World Records (GWR) attempt, this time to cook the largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice.
The event began on Friday at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, after being relocated from its initial venue, Muri Okunola Park, to accommodate a surge in registered attendees.
Baci, who once held the record for the longest cooking marathon, unveiled a custom-built pot measuring six metres wide for the challenge.
In a lighthearted Instagram update ahead of the attempt, the chef confirmed she had personally cleaned the giant utensil.
“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will carry thousands of servings of Nigerian Jollof history in the making,” she wrote.
The record attempt will see Baci use 250 bags of rice, alongside other ingredients, to prepare the giant dish.
The chef first rose to international fame in May 2023 when she set a Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. However, her feat was later surpassed in November 2023 by Irish chef Alan Fisher.
Baci said her new attempt is about pushing boundaries and celebrating Nigeria’s culinary pride.
With the massive turnout at Eko Hotels and a pot that could feed thousands, the celebrity chef is once again set to etch her name in the Guinness World Records.
