Ghana’s record goalscorer, Asamoah Gyan, popped up on the Nigerian radar in the past week in the wake of some reports regarding Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Galatasaray striker could only play 30 minutes in Nigeria’s clash against Rwanda before he was clattered into.

He tried to continue the game but was taken off five minutes later, replaced by Cyriel Dessers. Upon further examination, it was found that Osimhen suffered a bruised shin, and the 26-year-old immediately travelled to Turkey, missing Nigeria’s clash against South Africa and prompting some comments from the club’s coach, Okan Buruk.

Several reports claimed Gyan mentioned Osimhen only claimed to be injured so he can return in tip-top form for Galatasaray. “Go to Africa, play a bit, then act injured”.

The comments spread quickly across social media, sparking heated debate among fans of both Nigeria and Ghana.

However, the former Sunderland forward has come out to claim the reports are false, maintaining he wouldn’t make such statements about one of Africa’s best strikers.

On his official X account , the 39-year-old revealed the reports are fabricated as he didn’t grant any recent interviews regarding Nigeria.

Fabricated quotes attributed to me about Victor Osimhen has gone viral on social media. It’s important to set the record straight: I never granted any interview about Nigeria. The last AFCON game v Cameroon was the last time I spoke about Osimhen’s talent. Don’t spread FAKE news.

The former Udinese man then took it a step further, revealing he spoke to Osimhen recently, and wished him a speedy recovery from his ankle injury.

I had a great chat with my brother @VictorOsimhen9 on the phone earlier today. Once again, I wish you a full and speedy recovery.
