The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Ishiaku Bukar, for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl at farmland in Maiduwa community of Fika Local Council.
According to the command, the suspect lured the girl to a farm under the pretext of assisting her with undisclosed rewards. The spokesperson for the command, SP Abdulkarim Dungus, disclosed that on September 13, 2025 at about 7:00 a.m., a distressed call was received from the guardian of the girl in Maiduwa village.
Consequently, the Fika Divisional Police headquarters promptly arrested Ishiaku Bukar of the same address as the girl’s guardian and complainant in the alleged rape case.
Explaining how the girl was sexually assaulted, the SP said: “Instead of rewarding the girl on reaching the farm, Bukar took advantage of the situation to sexually abuse her.”
Dungus added that during police interrogation, Bukar confessed to sexually assaulting the girl. Besides the arrest of the suspect, the spokesperson noted that reports of harassment and abuse of women and children are increasing at the peak of cropping season in the state. He warned: “Anyone found perpetrating such heinous acts against women and children will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.”
The Police Commissioner, Emmanuel Ado, also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant by reporting all suspicious persons who take advantage of the cropping season to harass or abuse women and children in the state.
