The Imo State Police Command has intensified efforts to rescue Ngozi Ogbu, a former legislator, from the captivity of his abductors. Ogbu, who represented Okigwe constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly and also served as chairman of Okigwe Local Council, was abducted on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in Onuimo.
He was reportedly on his way to his ancestral home in Okigwe to prepare for the burial of his late mother when gunmen whisked him away into a nearby bush.
In a statement issued on Sunday evening, the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed that the police were aware of a viral video showing the former legislator in a dehumanising hostage condition.
Okoye stated that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had deployed tactical operatives from the command, working in synergy with other sister security agencies, to ensure the safe rescue of the victim.
The command appealed to the public to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist ongoing operations.
