Abia State Governor Alex Otti has offered immediate employment to nine former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Abia origin who earned Presidential Honours Awards for their exceptional service.
The announcement was made during a meeting with the awardees, led by NYSC State Coordinator Mrs. Gladys Adama, at the governor’s office on Tuesday.
Otti instructed the State Head of Service to issue appointment letters promptly, bypassing the usual recruitment process.
“I hereby temporarily lift the embargo on employment to employ the nine of you, except if any of you is not interested,” Otti declared, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He added, “All you need to do is complete your documentation and start work on Monday.”
The governor praised the ex-Corps members for their remarkable achievements and urged them to maintain their high standards. He also commended Mrs. Adama for her leadership and for presenting the group to him.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Chinomso Nwogu expressed gratitude, stating, “We sincerely thank Your Excellency for this recognition and opportunity. We pledge to serve Abia State with unwavering dedication.”
He also lauded Otti’s leadership, describing him as “a true leader, the Joshua of our time,” and prayed for divine wisdom to guide the governor’s administration.
Mrs. Adama highlighted the group’s accomplishments, noting, “These nine have made Abia proud, securing the highest number of awards among states, with most serving outside the Southeast, including in the North.”
The honored ex-Corps members are Nwogu Chinonso Nwogo, Promise Anyanwu, Ezieme Uba, Ezinne Emmanuel, Grace Abia, Chiemela Nwafike, Dr. Mark Ugwa, Miracle Eke, and James Chukwuebuka.
The employment directive takes effect immediately, with the State’s Attorney-General tasked with ensuring swift implementation.
