At least 58 people have died in a cholera outbreak in Bauchi State.
258 others have been infected in the cholera which has so far affected 14 local government areas of the state.
The unfortunate incident forced Governor Bala Mohammed to set up a Cholera Steering Committee headed by his deputy, Auwal Jatau.

The committee will work with the Technical Working Group chaired by the state Commissuoner for Health, Sani Dambam, to check the spread of the disease.
Jatau, who inaugurated the committee on Friday, stressed the need for coordinated action by all stakeholders in the state.
He said: “The recurrent outbreaks continue to claim lives, disrupt livelihoods, and place enormous strain on our health system and socio-economic well-being.
“As of week 35, the state had recorded 258 new cholera cases and 58 deaths.
“These committees are expected to serve as the central coordinating bodies to lead Bauchi State’s multi-sectoral response to cholera outbreaks and to drive long-term prevention strategies in alignment with the National Cholera Control Plan and the broader goals of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.”
