2027: PDP holds LG congress in Edo State

Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has carried out local government congresses on Saturday across all 18 areas, selecting fresh executive committees and national delegates for the organization.

The party’s State Caretaker Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, oversaw the proceedings in Benin City—the state capital—together with a delegation from PDP’s national headquarters, headed by Mr. Hillary Okute.

During the session at the Oredo local government secretariat, where participants voted in an 18-member executive team and national delegates, Aziegbemi praised the event for its calm and open nature.

He called the proceedings a “rebirth” for the party as it gears up for the 2027 national elections.

“What you are seeing here is the beginning of the rebirth of PDP in Nigeria.

“Last week, we held ward congresses in all the 192 wards of the state, adjudged the best organised ever,” he said.

Aziegbemi pointed out that the day’s local government congress highlighted the vibrant energy, happiness, and commitment among PDP members in Edo.

With this surge, he declared, the groundwork is laid to oust the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power at both national and state levels in the 2027 and 2028 polls.

The PDP leader slammed the APC-led administration for driving Nigerians into dire straits.

“Over 60 million Nigerians go to bed hungry every night because of the APC’s clueless government.

“What we are doing here in Edo is the march to rescue Nigeria,” he said.

Aziegbemi also promised members that the upcoming state congress on September 27 in Benin would run without hitches, be it through consensus or competition.

“It will be peaceful; well-organised; and mark the consolidation of a united PDP ahead of the convention in Abuja this November,” he said.

In his comments, Hillary Okute, who chaired the LGA congress panel, commended the flawless execution.

He attributed the success to meticulous preparation, effort, and commitment.

Okute labeled the event a fresh start for the PDP.

“We are truly amazed at the decorum and spirit of brotherhood here today.

“We believe this will translate to higher levels, not just for Edo but for Nigeria,” he said. (NAN)
