In a transformative boost for higher education, Senate Deputy President Barau Jibrin has granted comprehensive scholarships valued at over ₦800,000 each to 1,000 deserving students, injecting more than ₦800 million into their academic futures.
The rollout took place at Bayero University in Kano on Saturday, where Barau, speaking through his representative Sen. Sumaila Kawu, framed the program as a direct response to the economic hurdles blocking young Nigerians from quality learning.
He positioned education as his foremost passion, viewing the effort as a cornerstone for building a stronger nation via skilled and motivated youth.
The senator encouraged recipients to treat the award not merely as monetary aid, but as a mandate for outstanding performance and societal contribution. To ease immediate logistics, Kawu personally handed out ₦20,000 in transport stipends to every beneficiary.
Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Atah, hailed the move as a shining example of leadership, urging fellow public figures to follow suit in uplifting communities.
Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Prof. Haruna Musa, praised the timing and potential of the intervention, calling it a game-changer for student success and institutional growth.
Gratitude poured from two thrilled recipients: Fathiyya Musa and Hauwa Abubakar Ibrahim, who shared their reactions with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“This means the world to us—it’s a door to dreams we thought were out of reach,” Fathiyya beamed, while Hauwa vowed, “We’ll honor this gift by excelling and giving back to Kano.”
This scholarship drive dovetails seamlessly with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which champions advancements in infrastructure, health services, schooling, economic vitality, and overall safety. (NAN)
