Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hit back at publisher and activist, Omoyele Sowore, over his recent allegations his principal’s wife owns properties abroad.
In a statement on Saturday, Olayinka said Sowore was running out of excuses to cover his past misdeeds, while accusing him of playing “mind games” to distract Nigerians from the weight of corruption allegations hanging over him.
According to him, Sowore’s recent outburst linking Wike to alleged property acquisitions abroad was nothing but a desperate ploy.
“He is running riot about purchase of properties in United States. Did the Minister deny that his wife has properties in the US? Is it an offense for anyone to own properties in the US through inheritance or purchase?” Olayinka queried.
The minister’s aide wondered how such claims could justify Sowore’s alleged records of deceit.
“And is that Sowore’s defense for publishing outright falsehood and calling the President a criminal? Is that his defense for collecting $3 million to sell his party’s governorship ticket, and keeping silence when people were killed in Rivers State in 2019 to force the candidate on whom he was paid on the people of Rivers State?” he asked.
Olayinka further accused Sowore of advancing his activism under false pretenses, likening it to internet fraud.
“Is that his defense for doing Yahoo Yahoo by collecting millions of dollars from foreign donors under false pretense?” he said, and stressed that the activist’s financial dealings had long been questionable.
He added that Sowore’s approach to politics and activism was unsustainable and nearing its end.
“Like I have maintained, Sowore can only run and hide under Cashtivist for a while, he will get to the end of his scamming wit soon,” Olayinka declared.
Earlier, Sowore tweeted: “Nyesom @GovWike must be held accountable under U.S. law if he follows Tinubu to the UN General Assembly in New York.
“If Nyesom Ezenwo Wike @govwike follows Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT to the United Nations General Assembly, he must be arrested to face Florida’s money laundering charges as well as federal indictments for money laundering and asset trafficking.
“His money laundering schemes would fall under the Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative, a program of the U.S. Department of Justice (@USDOJ_Intl ) designed to combat corruption by foreign public officials, recover the proceeds of foreign bribery and theft laundered into or through the United States, and return stolen assets to the citizens of the countries from which they were taken.
“@GovWike Florida mansions, hidden under his wife’s Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, a Nigerian Court of Appeal judge and children’s names, are textbook examples of laundering proceeds of crime.
“These properties should be seized, and Wike himself should face indictment under both Florida’s anti-money laundering statutes and U.S. federal law.”
