The executives of the Central Regional chapter of the Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) of TUC have declared their support towards the indefinite strike action announced by their national Executives till further notice.
According to them, members of TEWU have been taken for granted for far too long, citing the delay in signing the conditions of service for Non Teaching staff of GES, junior staff of public and technical Universities, Library and others.
Regional Executives are therefore urging the members to support the action by complying with the directives until further notice.
The decision according to them, follows government and employer institutions’ refusal to address long standing issues affecting the members despite exhausting all laid down legal and procedural requirements.
Some of the demands include the immediate signing of condition of service for TEWU of TUC Ghana and all junior staff of Public and Technical Universities, Non-Teaching Staff of GES, Staff of Ghana Library Authority, Staff of Museums and Monuments board.
Other issues of concern include the resolution of promotion discrepancies and grievances for staff of GES and others as well as the inclusion of continuous professional development and skills allowances for non-teaching staff of GES and others.
It was explained that, staff of the Ghana Library board for instance have not enjoyed any allowance for the past 17 years.
The Regional Industrial Relation Officer , Madam Comfort Esi Yankey and the Regional Chairman of TEWU, Philip Kwaku Arthur , expressed their frustration and called on all members to comply with this industrial action aimed at seeking their own welfare.
Employer institutions are also called upon not to intimidate members when complying.
