On Sunday, a heartfelt third-day prayer was held in Kano the Sarkin Gabas and District Head of Kabo, who tragically passed away in a motor accident on Thursday night at the age of 48.
The prayer session, guided by Islamic scholar Malam Umar Ali and other clerics, took place at the residence of the late Alhaji Adamu Dankabo, the deceased’s grandfather.
Thousands gathered to recite verses from the Holy Qur’an, praying for the eternal rest of Dankabo, his late father, and mother.
Among the prominent attendees were Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, his deputy Aminu Gwarzo, former Minister of Justice Bello Adoke, and Abdul’Aziz Abdul’Aziz, Special Assistant on Media to President Bola Tinubu.
Also present were former Kano State Governor Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, business tycoon Alhaji Aliko Dangote, and former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Kabiru Rurum.
“His death is a profound loss to the Kano Emirate and the entire community,” a mourner remarked, reflecting the sentiment of the large crowd that attended the funeral prayer on Friday, led by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II at Kofar Kudu Palace.
Dankabo, the eldest son of the late Alhaji Adamu Dankabo, Jarma of Kano and founder of Kabo Air Limited, held a significant position as Sarkin Gabas, a senior title in the Kano Emirate with key cultural and administrative roles.
The Dankabo family is renowned in Kano for its contributions to business, politics, and philanthropy. Kabo Air, established in 1980, was a prominent airline operating domestic and international flights before focusing on charter and Hajj services in the 2000s.
“The legacy of Idris Dankabo and his family will continue to inspire us,” said an attendee at the prayer.
His untimely death is expected to leave a significant gap in the traditional leadership of the Kano Emirate.
