House Of Reps Shift Resumption Of Plenary To October 7

The House of Representatives has postponed its planned resumption of plenary sessions by two weeks, moving the date from Tuesday, September 23, to Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

In an internal memorandum addressed to lawmakers, the Clerk of the House, Mr. Yahaya Danzaria, conveyed the adjustment and expressed regret over the sudden change.

“With deep regrets, Honourable Members are hereby informed that the resumption of plenary sessions earlier scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, has been rescheduled. The new date of resumption is Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Kindly take note and make the necessary adjustments to your schedules accordingly,” the memo read.

While no official reason was provided for the shift, members were urged to take note of the new date and adjust their schedules. The development effectively prolongs the recess, leaving legislative activities in the Green Chamber on hold.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has dismissed claims that the lawmakers are against the borrowing plans by the government of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking in Abuja at the 8th Annual African Network of Parliamentary Budget Offices (AN-PBO) Conference, Abbas said reports suggesting that the House opposed Tinubu’s borrowing plans are both inaccurate and misleading.

He clarified that the recent speech delivered by the House Leader at the West African Parliamentary Conference (WAPC) was erroneously reported in some quarters to claim the House of Representatives is against Tinubu’s borrowing plans.
