Source: UGC According to a report by The Guardian UK, 63-year-old Anthony Olubunmi George arrived in the UK in 1986.
The report says George was 24 when he relocated, but he has faced a lot of challenges, the latest being deportation harmer which dangled over his head.
George was facing deportation after it was discovered that his earlier immigration lawyer used a fake stamp on his passport.
He was reported to the police, but he stated that he didn’t know anything about the stamp.
George, who has been homeless, said he has survived only because of the benevolence of his friends.
He said:
“I don’t know how many different sofas I’ve slept on – too many to count. I don’t have my life, living the way I’m living now. My health problems since I had my stroke are my biggest worry. All I’m asking for is some kindness from the Home Office.” His current lawyer, Naga Kandiah of MTC Solicitors, said George’s poor legal representation by his former lawyers caused his problems.
She said:
“My client has been living in limbo for 38 years, with no family, has suffered two strokes and has no family left in Nigeria. His situation is not just because of Home Office policies but also because of poor representation by previous solicitors who failed to uphold professional integrity and ethical standards.” However, finally, he has escaped deportation and has now been allowed to continue living in the UK.
George said:
“I’m so happy I don’t know what to say. My life has just begun again. Before, I didn’t have hope, but now by God’s grace I can move forward with my life.” George has suffered from serious health challenges, including a stroke and is now considered disabled.
The judge who ruled on the case said:
