CAC Deploys AI To Tackle 7,000 Registration Backlog

September 23, (THEWILL) — The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has disclosed plans to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) to clear about 7,000 backlog of company registration applications.

Registrar-General of the CAC, Hussaini Magaji, who disclosed this at a stakeholders’ forum in Kano, said the initiative, which will reduce delays in service delivery, was part of a “complete overhaul” of the Company Registration Portal launched in June 2025.

Noting that the AI initiative was in line with the Federal Government’s drive to improve Nigeria’s business environment by simplifying registration processes and accelerating approvals, Magaji said the AI system is designed to speed up compliance, registry, and customer service processes with improved accuracy.

“The AI agent will handle requests across compliance, registry, and customer service with speed and accuracy. Name reservation under the new system is now as simple as opening an email account, with instant approvals and alternative suggestions when preferred names are unavailable”, he explained.

Magaji acknowledged that some customers had experienced delays, attributing the setbacks to the high volume of applications being processed. To manage inquiries more effectively, the CAC is also programming the AI to triage correspondence.

He noted that the system would be able to read up to 3,000 emails per minute, detect duplicate requests, and redirect messages to the appropriate units for faster responses.
