Policeman shot dead as gunmen abduct guards in Kwara

A police officer identified as Corporal Salisu Shamaki has been killed by suspected bandits in Egboro, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident, it was gathered, occurred on Tuesday when the hoodlums stormed a mining company owned by a Chinese.

Sources said the deceased Shamaki, who was attached to a Chinese miner in the area, was killed during the attack.

Two other security guards said to be manning the facility were reportedly abducted in the process.

The whereabouts of the victims remained unknown Wednesday night.

A residenr said the policeman was killed in Gbuaji settlement in the area where he was guarding a Chinese expatriate, though his boss was not around.

He said the corpse of the officer had been brought to Patigi for burial.

In a telephone chat with our correspondent, the commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the death of the corporal.

He however clarified that the incident occurred in Patigi and not Ifelodun adding that no police officers were abducted.

According to him, “At Egboro, Patigi local government area, a police officer was killed at a Chinese company and two of the guards who were guiding the company were abducted. Properties within the facility was also vandalized.

“The Chinese expatriate has not been to the facility for the past three months.

“Unfortunately, a police officer died in the process among the four that were there.

“Contrary to reports, the police men that they said were abducted are with me now and they were presently giving the briefing of what happened”, he said.
