Rio Ngumoha pens first professional contract with Liverpool

Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha has signed his first professional contract with the Premier League champions.

The 17-year-old forward has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, scoring a dramatic 100th-minute winner on his Premier League debut against Newcastle last month.

He also became the youngest player ever to start a competitive match for Liverpool at 16 years and 135 days in January’s 4-0 FA Cup victory over Accrington.

Ngumoha, who joined Liverpool from Chelsea’s academy in September 2024, has already made five senior appearances for the Reds and was handed a Champions League debut in the recent win over Atletico Madrid.

Regarded as one of the brightest talents of his generation, the England youth international rejected Chelsea’s long-term offers in favour of what he saw as a clearer pathway to first-team football at Anfield.

Manager Arne Slot has quickly integrated Ngumoha into his plans, with the youngster impressing in pre-season against Athletic Club, AC Milan and Yokohama F. Marinos. His performances, including goals and assists, have further underlined his potential as a future star for the Reds.

Liverpool did not disclose the length of Ngumoha’s new deal.
