Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Samuel Ogbuku
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has responded to a malicious publication by an online news medium, which claimed that the Commission spent ₦5 billion of public funds to finance the 50th birthday celebration of its Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.
According to the NDDC, the birthday celebration was solely sponsored by friends, family members, and associates, and not by the Commission.
This was disclosed by the Director, Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, saying the celebration, which included the launch of two books in Abuja, was structured around intellectual reflection, communal celebration, and thanksgiving to God.
The Commission also denied claims that the non-release of its audit report has hindered the execution of NDDC projects. Instead, the NDDC has demonstrated its commitment to making the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government a reality in the Niger Delta region.
Thompson-Wakama noted that the Commission has completed and commissioned several projects, including roads, bridges, and electricity projects, in various states across the region.
He reiterated its commitment to delivering legacy projects, including the 1.2 km Kaa-Ataba Bridge, the Okrika-Borikiri Bridge, and the regional specialist hospitals in Ikom, Cross River State, and Port Harcourt.
However, the Commission urged the public to disregard the malicious publication by Sahara Reporters and focus on the NDDC’s numerous achievements and initiatives that have had a positive impact on the region.
