Davido, a prominent Afrobeats artist, nearly considered leaving music before releasing his hit single “With You.”
The song features fellow artist Omah Lay and has become a significant success.
In a recent interview, Davido expressed surprise at the track’s impact, stating he did not expect it to be the standout hit of his latest album.
Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he nearly stepped away from music shortly before releasing his chart-topping single “With You,” which features Omah Lay.
In a widely shared interview, the multiple award-winning singer admitted he never anticipated the track would become the defining hit of his latest album.
Davido explained that the overwhelming reception to the song rekindled his love for making music at a time when he was seriously considering a break after more than ten years in the industry.
Looking back on his career, he noted how unusual it is for an artist to experience such a major breakthrough so deep into their journey. He described the success as perfectly timed, calling it a divine boost just as he was preparing to slow down.
“Some artists get that kind of song at the start of their careers, others in the middle. For me, 13–14 years in, I was even thinking of bowing out. Then God blessed me with this song. It added more life to my journey,” he said.
