An Oyo State High Court has issued an interim injunction preventing the United Bank of Africa (UBA) from disbursing withheld local government allocations, reportedly paid by the federal government to council officials elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.
The Osun State Government initiated legal action against UBA concerning the release of over six months’ worth of withheld allocations.
The Osun State Attorney General and the Osun State Local Government Service Commission filed for an interim injunction to stop UBA from distributing funds designated as statutory allocations for Osun’s 30 local governments.
Court documents reveal the state government’s request for an order to block UBA from releasing these funds until the court hears and determines the Motion on Notice for an interlocutory injunction.
Justice A.L. Akintola, in his ruling, granted the interim injunction, restraining UBA from disbursing the funds to the APC chairmen.
The court clarified that this interim order allows UBA the opportunity to contest the injunction once they respond to the motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction already filed.
The judge stated, “The interim orders of injunction sought are hereby granted as prayed, on the claimants/applicants.”
