Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the immediate dismissal of all commissioners and public officers serving under his administration.
Fubara Sacks All Commissioners, Public Officers
The decision, according to a statement issued in Port Harcourt by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, was taken in response to the recent Supreme Court judgment that directly affected his government.
Governor Thanks Outgoing Cabinet
Governor Fubara, during a valedictory session with his cabinet on Wednesday at the Government House in Port Harcourt, expressed gratitude to his team for their dedication and service to the state over the last two years.
He commended their efforts in driving development projects and highlighted the symbolic importance of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in building a more peaceful and prosperous nation.
“The governor highlighted the significance of Nigeria’s Independence, and called on all Nigerians to work together with Mr President to build a peaceful, secure and prosperous country and a brighter future for all,” the statement stated.
Fubara also reaffirmed his commitment to serve Rivers people with “renewed vigour,” while extending his appreciation to residents for their continuous support.
The statement further confirmed that the governor had formally relieved all affected commissioners and public officers of their duties, with immediate effect.
This development comes weeks after Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), who served as the state’s interim administrator following Fubara’s earlier suspension by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had suspended commissioners, special advisers, and assistants.
Ibas also dissolved boards and suspended heads of parastatals during his tenure.
Since Ibas’ exit on September 18 , the future of Fubara’s appointees had remained uncertain until Wednesday’s mass sack was announced.
