The Imo State Police Command has invited the leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Ralph Uwazuruike, to appear before its Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) over allegations of criminal invasion, forgery, and wilful damage.

According to an invitation letter dated October 16, 2025, and jointly signed by ASP John Ebute, ASP Eze Jet, and Inspector Alice Zakari, Uwazuruike is expected to report to the AKU headquarters in Owerri by 10 a.m. on Monday, October 20.

The timing of the summons has sparked controversy, as it coincides with nationwide peaceful protests planned by several civil society groups to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

MASSOB, in a statement signed by its Director of Information, Mazi Chris Mocha, described the police action as a possible ploy to stop Uwazuruike from joining the protest.

Uwazuruike, in a viral video reacting to the development, maintained that he would still participate in the peaceful demonstration, saying the movement for Kanu’s release transcends personal differences.

I will be part of any peaceful protest for Nnamdi Kanu’s release. This is not about Kanu alone; it is about our collective dignity as a people, he said.

The MASSOB leader insisted that he bears no animosity toward the police but views the timing of the invitation as an attempt to silence his voice. He reaffirmed his commitment to non-violence and peaceful agitation, stating that his involvement is guided by conscience and justice.

Uwazuruike concluded that he remains firm, calm, and unshaken in his support for Biafra’s self-determination struggle, emphasizing that peace—not confrontation—remains his guiding principle.
