Booking talent can be very tricky—but thankfully, the team in charge of Turning Point USA’s “All American Halftime Show” can rest easy. None other than Lara Trump —wife of Donald Trump’s middle son Eric, Fox News host, and aspiring country singer, apparently—has offered to perform at the event protesting Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LIX headlining performance. Bad Bunny must be sweating.
During an episode of her podcast The Right View with Lara Trump, the presidential daughter-in-law gave a few suggestions for potential headliners for the “All American Halftime Show” including country star Chris Stapleton (who wouldn’t reveal which candidate had his vote in 2024, saying only “I’m voting for America!”) and MAGA rapper Tom MacDonald. Then Lara-who married Eric in 2014 and shares two children with him—decided to toss her own name in the ring. “You know what? You can throw Lara Trump in there. Yeah! That’s right,” she said with a laugh. (Vanity Fair reached out to Lara Trump for comment.)
After rumors circulated that Lara Trump had actually been tapped by Turning Point USA to perform at the halftime show, Lara took to her Instagram to clarify her remarks. “There are people out there on the left who are melting down and really upset about the possibility that I might be performing at the halftime show for the Super Bowl for Turning Point USA,” she said. “While my joking offer—which was clearly a comical and joking offer—still stands to perform, I haven’t been asked in any formal way to perform.” She ended her video asking for donations for her favorite animal rescue, Big Dog Ranch Rescue.
She may have been joking, but a quick run through her discography proves that Lara Trump would indeed be the perfect choice for the “All American Halftime Show.” For starters, her family is already aligned with the brand founded by the late Charlie Kirk: Donald Trump spoke at the Turning Point USA founder’s memorial service and recently posthumously awarded Kirk the presidential medal of freedom. Performing at Turning Point USA’s Super Bowl counterprogramming would probably give Trump some brownie points with her father-in-law.
Lara Trump also fancies herself something of a performer. She’s released a number of singles—no albums just yet—all available to stream on Spotify. Maybe she could begin her set with a crowd pleaser: her 2023 cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.” And, hey, if she wants to go unplugged, she can perform her acoustic version, also available on Spotify.
Trump’s original tunes tend to lean patriotic—perfect for an event celebrating faith, football, and American-but-not-Puerto-Rican family values. There’s “Anything is Possible,” a rousing anthem meant to inspire. “Don’t think, just jump // You can’t give up,” she sings. Lara could also try “Colors Don’t Run,” her 2024 single with the Moonshine Bandits, which is about—you guessed it—the American flag. In the middle of “Colors Don’t Run,” there’s a spoken-word section in which the Moonshine Bandits attempt to rhyme ”Bible by my pistol // Pistol by my whiskey” with “Politicking just to trick me // If you want it come and get it.” Bibles, pistols, and whiskey? What could be more MAGA that that?
For those looking to put the “God” back in “God Bless America,” Lara has another song for you: her most recently released track, the more uptempo and upbeat “Eyes of God.” In the song, Lara sings that it’s “time to break the cliche” and “look under the surface” because “in the eyes of God we’re born the same.” Of course, her father-in-law’s administration doesn’t necessarily believe that message extends to immigrants or trans folks. But it’s a nice sentiment nonetheless.
Lara has made other forays outside of country music as well. She has a song featuring rapper French Montana—yes that French Montana—called “No Days Off.” The song is absolutely going for club pop—and would provide the crowd at Turning Point USA halftime show an opportunity to turn up. She also has another entry in her Taylor Swift-ian attempt to cross over from country music to pop: “Back to Believing,” a treacly ballad released in 2024. If this song is any indication of Trump’s potential to pop off in pop music, Swift is in no immediate danger of losing her day job.
Of course, Lara would close a halftime set with her anthem “Hero,” a duet sung with Madeliyn James that’s dedicated to fire ighters. Clips from the music video for “Hero” have gone viral online, meaning there’s already a built-in audience for the song. (We assume some of them like it sincerely.) The music video features Trump and her duet partner singing on a fire escape interspersed with footage of firefighters saving children from burning buildings. “You’re going through the fire, and the flame’s getting higher,” the pair sing. “You’re my hero, you’re my hero. You’re climbing up the ladder and the screams getting louder, you’re my hero.” How vivid!
Bunny Bad Bunny has 80,000,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Lara Trump has 11,050. That number might seem like it’s almost 7000 times smaller than Bad Bunny’s, but that’s only because it is. But, hey—just because someone small is facing someone bigger in head to head competition, that doesn’t mean they’re fated to lose. Remember David and Goliath? And who won that fight?
