The leadership of the PBAT Door to Door Movement, a political support group aligned with President Bola Tinubu, has distanced its Grand Patron, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, from a recent campaign calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement issued on Sunday, the group’s National Coordinator, Sunday Asuku, described the claim linking Tompolo to a purported 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over Kanu’s detention as “baseless and mischievous.”
“This claim is entirely baseless and the handiwork of desperate propagandists, fake news merchants, fifth columnists, and agents of disunity,” Asuku said, emphasizing that Tompolo had made no such demand or statement.
The clarification comes ahead of Kanu’s scheduled appearance at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he is set to open his defence on terrorism charges. The court, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, had on Friday adjourned the proceedings after Kanu complained that his former legal team, led by Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), had yet to hand over his case file.
Asuku accused unnamed individuals of attempting to stir political tension and sow division by dragging Tompolo’s name into the matter. He said the attempt had “collapsed under the weight of Tompolo’s well-known commitment to peace, unity, and national development.”

According to him, the false report was a reaction to Tompolo’s strong support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which, he said, had unsettled some political actors opposed to the administration’s reforms.
“These elements are bent on creating tension and undermining the patriotic efforts of a man who has remained an icon of peace, unity, and socio-economic progress, regardless of tribal, religious, or political affiliations,” Asuku said.
He added that at no time did Tompolo issue any comment or directive regarding Kanu’s trial, stressing that “the matter is before a competent court of law, and any interference with due process would be unpatriotic and unlawful.”
The PBAT Door to Door Movement also called on security agencies to investigate those behind the false report and take appropriate action against the perpetrators.
“The reckless use of social media to spread divisive propaganda undermines the integrity of public discourse and poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s collective peace and development,” Asuku warned.
He reaffirmed that the group remains focused on supporting the government’s efforts to strengthen national unity and advance sustainable development across all regions of the country.
