The United States government has revoked the non-immigrant visa of Nigerian Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka , citing new information that surfaced after the visa was issued.

The development came to light during a media briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, where the 89-year-old literary icon shared details of the official correspondence from the U.S. Consulate General.

According to the letter, dated October 23 and signed by the *U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, Soyinka was instructed to present his passport for the *physical cancellation of his visa.

“This letter serves as official notification by the United States Consulate General in Lagos that the nonimmigrant visa listed below has been revoked pursuant to the authority contained in U.S. Department of State regulations 22 CFR 41.122 and is no longer valid for application for entry into the United States,” the letter stated.

The communication further explained that the decision followed the emergence of “additional information” after the visa had been granted.

While details surrounding the new information remain unclear, the U.S. Consulate requested that Soyinka’s passport be submitted for formal cancellation.
